The last few days of polls certainly have made me feel better. Four years ago I compared Obama's campaign to the 1938 Match Race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral. I think this years' campaign mirrors the race even more closely. After grabbing an early lead, it looks as though War Admiral is overtaking a tiring Seabiscuit--well the story ends differently.
Check it out below--the actual race footage:
1938 Match Race
Seabiscuit worked from the start to take the early lead, but War Admiral pulls even with Seabiscuit approaching the final turn. Seabiscuit had the inside track, however, and the greater will to win--just like Obama has the better fundamental path to an Electoral College victory and the better ability to lead.
It's a great race to watch, and Obama is pulling away too in the final days of the campaign. I think I will sleep well this weekend for the first time is many nights.
If you find the race intriguing, the non-fiction story Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand is a fantastic biography of this American Legend.
